Mt Airy Net was started in 1993 by a ministerium of pastors in Mt Airy. They wanted a centralized place where they could pull resources to help those in need in the community. They opened in space that was donated by Calvary United Methodist Church where the office and pantry continue to reside.

To this day, Mt Airy Net still runs on donations from churches, businesses, organizations and individuals throughout the community. All donations continue to go back out to families in Mt Airy. The town sits in four counties and they partner with each county agency as needed to help the families.

The number of families coming in continues to grow over the years as the community grows and various hardships happen. On average, there were over 90 families receiving aid from Mt. Airy Net each month in 2018.
